Kakum National Park

Kakum National Park is located about 1 hour north of Cape Coast. Many come to visit the jungle and walk on the 7 suspension bridges that make up the Canopy Walk. The bridges were built with the help of some Canadians in the 90's but Tony and I were wondering how well they are being maintained...we took the risk in order to see the top of the jungle...

The scenery changed to lush green beauty as we approached the park...
I tried to take a photo of the sign welcoming us to the park and we missed the fact that there was a small dirt road entrance in front of the sign...of course there wasn't an arrow on the sign...it's the Ghanaian way to keep you guessing...so 15 minutes and 3 towns later we realized we had missed the gate...
We arrived a little later than planned but still before 9am...we had missed the first tour so we took the 9:15am tour which started at 9:40am :)

This was a cool tree that was growing out of an old stump...

Posing in the jungle...

Tarzan vines were everywhere...we didn't see any animals only birds and lizards (except for a rat above the reception guys head...:)) They say that you have to sleep at the park if you want to see any big mammals because they hide during the day. The forest canopy...ahhhhhhhh...that is my Tarzan call!
Charity and I navigating the jungle trail...
Cool tree!

Happy family crossing the bridge...you can't imagine how high it is....don't look down!!
I'm smiling and having fun but I my hair and clothes were soaked....perspiration or humidity??? I'm not sure but I was moist...

Welcome to the JUNGLE...

At the bottom of the trail you could buy ripe Cocoa pods or fresh palm wine that was bottled in water bottles... The tour of the park was great fun...however, we won't soon forget the AfricanAmerican woman who was behind us throughout the suspension bridges...she was apparently afraid of heights and full of drama...she was praying loudly for Jesus to keep her safe and she was lucky that one of the other tourists didn't knock her off the bridge...so much for the peaceful nature of the jungle... :)
