Visit to the Village

There are banana plantations run by foreigners close to the village. They employ locals but they don't pay them well.
The lizards pose for me.

Weeding with a machete.

Cousins preparing coconut milk for us to drink...very refreshing!

Girls giggling at us as they walked to school around 7am.

Charity Buying some gum from the shop in front of Grandma's house.

Charity really wants to bring a lizard home...this one was pretty big.

Notice the name on Grandma's shops.

The shops infront of Grandma's house.

The view (from Grandma's roof top) of the road to the village around 6am (off to work and school)
It seems not many in the village have water in their homes.

Inside the Catholic Church in the Village. The 2 1/2 hour service!!

Bicycles and motorcycles are everywhere around the village.

We haven't used mosquito nets in Achimota but in the village we did.

Charity having her ice cream while Yvonne braids her hair.
The doors in Grandma's house have elaborate carvings.
Houses on the way to the village.

Farmlands behind Grandma's house.
A terminte mound (the locals call them ant hills).

  1. The banana plantation close to Grandma's is owned by a Dole subsidiary and you are right; the workers aren't compensated well when you consider the work-load, chemical hazards and long hours.
